Sikkim introduces entry fee for tourists.
Sikkim introduces entry fee for tourists.

Planning a trip to Sikkim? Be prepared for a small change in your travel expenses as the state government has recently introduced a new tourist entry fee. Effective from this month, tourists will now be charged ₹50 upon arrival in Sikkim under the newly implemented Sikkim Registration of Tourist Trade Rules 2025.

How It Works

The entry fee is collected during check-in at hotels and is directly deposited into the Tourism Sustainability Development (TSD) Fund. This fund will be used to enhance the state's tourism infrastructure and improve services, ultimately providing a better travel experience for visitors.

Who’s Affected?

The fee applies to all tourists, except children under the age of five. The charge is applicable for stays of up to 30 days, and if a tourist visits the state again after a month, they will be required to pay the fee again.

Why Is This Fee Being Implemented?

The revenue generated from the entry fee will be used for several purposes, including:

  • Improving road connectivity to ensure easier access to the state's attractions.

  • Enhancing cleanliness and maintaining the natural beauty that Sikkim is known for.

  • Developing tourism infrastructure, which will elevate the overall experience for travelers.

With this new initiative, Sikkim aims to foster sustainable tourism, ensuring that visitors enjoy their stay while contributing to the region's development.

So, if you’re planning a visit to this stunning northeastern state, don't forget to factor in the new ₹50 entry fee – a small contribution towards the betterment of the tourism experience in Sikkim!
