Actor Darshan
SC overturns bail for Kannada actor Darshan in Renukaswamy murder case.

The Supreme Court of India on Thursday, August 14, 2025, cancelled the bail granted to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and six co-accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. The Bench passed the order while hearing a plea filed by the Karnataka State Government, which had challenged the High Court’s December 13, 2024 order granting bail.

In its ruling, the Supreme Court observed, “Whosoever he may be, howsoever high, he is not above the rule of law.” The court’s decision is a setback for Darshan, who had been released after securing bail from the Karnataka High Court last year.

The case relates to the alleged murder of Renukaswamy, and the accused will now remain in judicial custody as the trial proceeds. The court emphasised that granting bail in such serious offences must be examined with utmost caution, considering the gravity of the allegations.
