Congress alleges political bias in semiconductor project location shifts.

The Congress party on Thursday, August 14, 2025, accused the Modi government of favouring BJP-ruled States over Opposition-led ones in the allocation of semiconductor manufacturing projects.

Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh claimed that two semiconductor projects, initially proposed for Telangana, were forced to shift to Gujarat. “Much earlier, similar transfers of locations were pushed through,” he alleged, adding that such decisions undermine balanced industrial growth across the country.

The remarks come amid the government’s push for the India Semiconductor Mission, a flagship initiative aimed at boosting domestic chip manufacturing. The Congress has argued that project allocation should be based on merit, infrastructure readiness, and regional balance rather than political considerations.

The government has not yet issued a formal response to the allegations.
