The Supreme Court of India was informed on Thursday, August 14, 2025, that there is “no immediate threat” to Indian nurse Nimisha Priya, who is currently on death row in Yemen for a murder conviction. The update was shared during a hearing before a Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta.
Counsel representing the petitioner organisation, Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, which has been providing legal support to Priya, confirmed that negotiations are underway with Yemeni authorities. Given the ongoing diplomatic and legal discussions, the counsel requested that the matter be adjourned.
The court agreed and scheduled the next hearing after eight weeks, allowing more time for talks aimed at securing a resolution.
The case has drawn significant attention from human rights advocates, as it involves complex international legal procedures and sensitive diplomatic engagement between India and Yemen.
