Shilpa Shetty Kundra's Bastian Hospitality Group recently made a significant change in its restaurant portfolio. Just a month after launching Bastian Chinois in December 2024, the 6,000 sq ft fine-dining restaurant in Mumbai’s Lower Parel has shut its doors. The restaurant, which focused on Asian cuisine and featured celebrity chef Hemant Oberoi, failed to meet the expectations set by the hospitality group.

On January 29, 2025, Bastian Hospitality took to Instagram to announce the closure, citing customer feedback that Chinois did not align with the company's high standards. The post, signed by Ranjit Bindra, Founder and MD of Bastian Hospitality, said, “While we poured our passion into creating Chinois, your feedback showed us it didn’t meet the benchmark we’ve set for ourselves. This realization brings us to a moment of transformation.”

Launch of Inka: A New Peruvian-Asian Dining Concept

Bastian Hospitality quickly pivoted from the closure of Chinois and launched Inka, a new Peruvian-Asian fusion restaurant. Located in Lower Parel, Mumbai, Inka offers a 200-seat dining space with a unique menu crafted by Chef Kinyo Rodas Tristan. The restaurant is divided into three sections: Mar (sea), Montana (mountain), and Basque (forest), each offering a carefully curated selection of starters, sushi, and mains.

The innovative blend of Peruvian and Asian cuisines is expected to bring a fresh dining experience to Mumbai's competitive food scene. With an emphasis on fusion flavors, Inka aims to capture the growing demand for unique culinary concepts in the city.

The Shift in Strategy: Adapting to Consumer Feedback

The quick turnaround from Chinois to Inka demonstrates Bastian Hospitality’s flexibility and responsiveness to market trends and customer feedback. With the closure of Chinois, the hospitality group is now focusing on a more adventurous culinary concept in Inka, which combines Latin American and Asian culinary traditions. This move reflects Bastian Hospitality's commitment to innovation and staying ahead of the curve in Mumbai's dining scene.

Conclusion: A New Chapter for Bastian Hospitality

As Inka opens its doors, Bastian Hospitality looks to establish its presence in the fusion dining space with a unique blend of Peruvian and Asian cuisines. The success of Inka could mark a new chapter for the group, as it seeks to meet the evolving tastes of Mumbai's dining audience. With a focus on high-quality ingredients and bold flavors, Inka is set to make a lasting impact on the city's culinary landscape.
